Say hello to the mouthwatering ‘Vegan Smashburger Taco,’ in collaboration with Abbot’s Butcher based in Venice, priced at $5.49. Indulge on this vegan option at the heart of Culver City’s Chicas Tacos and All Season Brewing locations.

During our visit to Chicas Tacos, we were greeted by a lively atmosphere reminiscent of a classic diner, infused with dynamic Spanish-inspired decor and music that flowed inside and out of the restaurant.

All tacos can be replaced with a flour tortilla or lettuce wrap for a 25-cent upcharge.

Vegan Smashburger Taco

The Vegan Smashburger Taco was the main event, with reason! Nestled within a corn tortilla, accompanied with shredded lettuce, pickles, chopped onions, thousand islands-style sauce, the Smashburger patty and a plant-based American cheese. As a meat eater myself, I thoroughly enjoyed the vegan patty and the taco as a whole.  The dish didn’t possess any hint of spice, so I recommend incorporating an additional sauce or jalapenos if you want to get a kick of that spice level.

Fish Taco

The Fish Taco featured a crispy beer-battered fish complemented by morita salsa, topped with a Caesar salad. The salad included breadcrumbs and Parmesan cheese that added y depth to each bite. The fish had a satisfying airy crunch, which I most definitely will try again!

Slow Braised Pork Taco
The Slow Braised Pork Taco is back! A wet corn tortilla with crisp radish, fragrant scallion, and a vibrant salsa verde to compliment the main event, the pulled pork. The pork was super soft and delicate, sourced from Abbot’s Butcher. The same goes for this taco, you may need to add your own spice factor if that is what you’re into!

Onto the drinks and appetizers!

Nachos

Chicas Tacos offers both vegan nachos or regular, we opted to get regular nachos. Seen in the photo above are non-GMO tortilla chips piled high topped with three cheese blend, morita salsa, radish, cilantro and topped with a grilled jalapeno. You can also choose to add your choice of protein, all brought to you by Abbot’s Butcher! The freshness of the tortillas mixed with the cheese blend provide balance to the tang of the scallion and the crunch of the radish, while the grilled jalapeno imparts a tantalizing smokiness. Each chip is expertly coated with at least two ingredients, ensuring a blend of various flavors in every mouthful.  The nachos would be best enjoyed in the company of others, as their abundant portion makes them an ideal dish for sharing.

Hibiscus Pineapple Agua Fresca + Coconut Cream Horchata

To compliment all the flavors of the day, Chicas Tacos presented us with two drinks. The first, a dark plum purple with a very strong hibiscus flavor. There was a balance between both bitter and the swee, that layers your tongue with that acidic pineapple feeling, great to wash down after a taco or plate of nachos.

Lastly, the Coconut Cream Horchata, which is best described as a churro liquidized. The coconut notes of the drink were subtle, complimented with a the velvety creaminess that was reminiscent more of a traditional horchata than a coconut cream. The drink also included subtle specks of cinnamon, infusing the palate with a not so overtly dessert-like taste. The Coconut Cream Horchata struck a perfect balance in complement to the previous indulgences.
