K-pop icons, TOMORROW X TOGETHER, or TXT, know how to keep their promises to their super fans, MOA. As promised, the boys returned to the tri-state area, but this time they graced the legendary stage that is Madison Square Garden for a two-night stop on their WORLD TOUR <ACT: PROMISE.
This tour has seen the guys visit fans in Tacoma Washington to Atlanta Georgia and now New York City.
The boys kicked off the night of two on June 1st, 2024, at Madison Square Garden by reminding their fans what they missed with a video intro before the guys epically took to the stage to sing their hit song “Déjà Vu.”
The epic entrance, which included a dance break before they got into the song seemed to play with the audience as if to tease MOA with what song the boys would sing to kick off the concert. This playful teasing with MOA seemed to be a big theme for the night. It was like the boys had gotten to be so comfortable with their fans that they had no problem outright being playful and teasing them like a familiar relative would do with a loved one.
Cladded in all-white outfits with hoods and black shirts underneath with white boots, the boys took to the stage which had parts of it that moved up and down in a circular Fashion for their song “Déjà Vu” before moving into their song “9 and Three Quarters (Run Away).” Then the boys took a break to chat with their fans.
Huening Kai acknowledged the magic of the moment promising that they would have fun while making history at Madison Square Garden. Taehyun also treated the audience to an acappella version of Alicia Keys‘s song, “Empire State of Mind” singing New York several times to the audience. Yeonjun capped off the moment by playing with Moa. He teased the audience about what song should we sing next.
The playful banter was refreshing to see how comfortable the boys have gotten not only in their performances but also with their fans feeling comfortable enough to joke with him as a family member would with a loved one.
The boys jumped into performing, “0X1=LOVESONG (I Know I Love You),” the before going straight into “Devil by the Window,” without a single break. It was like the boys were the audience’s own personal jukebox performing hit after hit. Fog filled the stage with blue light before the boys performed their hit “Sugar Rush Ride” with fans. It was certainly a unique performance with more of a percussion vibe before confetti started flying everywhere. Without truly stopping the boys changed up the mood of the concert with yellow and blue lights filling the arena with a starry orange glow for their song “Farewell, Neverland.”
The boys then headed off stage while a video played of them taking in the spectacle that is life. Unlike previous concert videos which involved a lot of fantasy the videos for the concert seemed to be more grounded as if the boys had finally left behind the whimsical fantasy that is childhood to ponder their existence as young adults with lots of angst and wandering. The boys returned to the stage for their mega-hit, “Chasing That Feeling.”
The crowd easily responded to the boys’ energy during the song, to the point that their screams almost drowned out the boys singing. But things got really going when Huening Kai said to the crowd “Let’s go!” Then the boys were bathed in rainbow colored lights before the first bars of the groups English hit “Magic,” could be heard. During their performance of “Magic” the boys we’re surrounded by funky fun colorful cityscapes in the background project it onto the LED screens along with fireworks and finally confetti flying everywhere to the crowds delight. The boys then took another talk break.
During the talk break the boys acknowledged their unique version of their song “Sugar Rush Ride,” explaining how it is important for them to have it be the Korean version. Then the boys took turns having fun with the fans and flirting and of course as always Yeonjun was enjoying the moment, while it was evident that shy Soobin was uncomfortable.
Then the boys decided to have fun with the fans by encouraging them to stamp, stamp, clap. Huening Kai got the crowd to move in unison before starting to belt out Queen’s “We Will Rock You.” He enjoyed showing off his talented voice and having fun with the fans. It was another time and of course, TXT had an intimate moment with their fans. The TXT members all moved their light sticks to the rhythm of the song however Yeonjun confused his mic for his light stick and when he wanted to speak he realized he was not able to be heard. The boys then ran to the back of the stage to have fun with a scene that included a motorcycle for their song,” New Rules,” before belting out their massive hit, “LO$ER=LO♡ER.” The song ended with the boys being doused in brown confetti before going into the song, “Ghosting.” During the performance, Yeonjun and Soobin had fun launching and lobbing confetti into the audience during the song, “Thursday’s Child Has Far To Go.”
The boys also grabbed towels and jumped around on the stage while the lyrics were projected for all in the audience to sing along. The boys were accompanied by the lines” Sorry I’m an anti-Romantic.” The boys then performed this song,” Trust Fund Baby” before slowing it up for their song,” Quarter Life.” The boys’ performance of “Quarter Life” was stripped down and deeply emotional. They rocked tees with jeans. Beomgyu, Taehyun, and Huening Kai certainly left the audience full of emotions.
After another introspective video break, Yeonjun and Soobin join each other on stage for their duo performance of “The Killa (I Belong to You).” Both were in tight pants and Soobin was in all black while Yeonjun was rocking a white Tee. Then all the boys returned to the stage with Beomgyu leading the charge for their megahit, “Back for More.” The boy’s song played again with their fans joking by asking “Do you want it?” And then they went into their song, “Tinnitus (Wanna be a rock).”
TXT then took another break in which a video played of them. In the video, they were looking back at old music videos as if they were recounting the joy of the simple times of childhood as they are glad, they came this far but only to realize they have so much more to go. When the video finished the stage was bathed in red, black, yellow and green lights as if to tempt the audience to get ready to rock. The boys belted out their song, “PUMA” and their monster hit, ”Good Boy Gone Bad.” The boys kept the angst alive for their song, “Growing Pains” as flames came out from the stage and the boys passed around a bath beating up instruments. The arena was bathed in colors of red and black with a hint of lime green.
Another video break gave the boys a chance to change things up. This break was more whimsical involving waiting for a train, exploring space, and seeking ones own existence. Smoke filled the arena as the boys came back on stage but this time sitting down for their song, “Dreamer.” Rocking white and blue shirts the boys belted out their song, “Deep Down.” During this song, , Taehyun showed off his vocal prowess while Huening Kai flexed his skills with the guitar. Likewise, Beomgyu couldn’t help but make light of the situation. The boys ended the show with their song, “I’ll See You There Tomorrow.” The Sunset seemed to signal to their fans that the boys would be back but for now, it was goodbye.
However, the goodbye did not last very long as TXT after a break and an opportunity to change clothes returned to the stage for encore performances. The boys were getting ready as their fans decided to create a wave around the arena. It was beautiful to see the fans coming together as one to honor their group. The boys had acknowledged MOA is what makes TXT so magical.
For the encore performances the boys performed, “Magic Island,” “Miracle” and “Do It Like That.” The boys also took time to chat with the fans one more time mostly speaking in Korean, the language of their heart and birth. They close at the show with two more songs and an extremely playful rendition of their second single, “Cat & Dog,” before going into a beautiful rendition of their touching song, “MOA Diary.”
From their performance, it was clear to see how much the boys have evolved, but stay true to their essence and roots while still keeping their performances intimate and connected to their fans. It was refreshing to see them evolve as a group not only for their professionalism and talents but also for their overall demeanor in interacting with their fans flirting and teasing them like a close loved one with you.
It also was gorgeous to see how much the boys have truly come into their own exuding confidence with every step on stage which only shows how far they’ve come since the time they had their showcase in New York in Times Square so many years ago.
