To welcome the Fall season with open arms, this week we’ve focused on tunes within the pop/indie realm that will complement the chillier weather that is headed our way. We’ve included a song off of pop newcomer FLETCHER‘s EP ‘Finding Fletcher’ and finished the list with indie-psychadelia duo Jagwar Ma‘s latest release.
- FLETCHER – “Wasted Youth”
If you haven’t heard about FLETCHER, you definitely will within the next couple of months. The rising star is on her way to join the influential group of female musicians such as Halsey, Alessia Cara, and Daya that provide young girls with catchy, anthemic songs. She placed herself on the radar last year with the release of her first ever single, “War Paint”, which went on to become the #1 shared song on Spotify for two consecutive weeks. Although the song is slow and melancholic, it by no means steers away from highlighting her powerful, Sia-esque voice. While her vocals complements the chilling instrumental perfectly, the versatility of the rest of the songs included in her EP prove that she’s is the furthest thing from a one-trick pony. The girl can sing anything and make it sound classy, yet edgy at the same time. We’re excited to hear some wicked collabs and to see where her career takes her. Given the attention she’s received from highly influential tastemakers such as Nylon, Teen Vogue, and Glamour, we’re confident that it’s only a matter of time until she’s a household name.
- Tor Miller – “Midnight”
For those of you who wish you could’ve lived through one of the best musical eras in history – the 70s – you will thank us for this one. One of Glassnote Record’s youngest artists – Brooklyner Tor Miller – has been tearing up the scene with his raspy voice. What sets Tor aside from other rising indie artists is that he has a certain vulnerable aspect to his voice that makes him particularly intriguing. When you hear a Tor Miller song, you know that it’s Tor Miller because of how distinct his voice is. It was hard to choose the one song we felt best represented him – we chose this one because of it’s about the city we all know and love, New York. The piano-driven track’s lyrics capture the essence of the mystical experience that is walking around the city during the late hours of the evening.
- DJ Fade & Young M.a – “Ooouuu (Fade Blend) Dirty”
By now you’ve probably heard the infectious “ooouuu” by Young M.A., now check out this hot new remix.Combining two of Brooklyn’s hottest talents, this “Ooouuu” mix mashes Bobby Shmurda’s “Hot N*****” beat with Young M.A.’s flame vocals. Not only does it salute Brooklyn’s hip hop culture, it highlights both artists’ breakout hits and has been played on Hot 97 and Power 105, New York’s staple hip hop stations. The DJ behind this blend is Jersey’s own DJ Fade The Future. DJ Fade is a DJ and producer based out of New Jersey, but has produced beats for countless international artists and has accumulated a respectable following. He predominantly mixes Club, Hip Hop and R&B, and you can check out his Soundcloud here for more tracks and check out the blend below. -Nishat Baig - Jagwar Ma – “Slipping”
We’re stoked that psychadelic rock is making a comeback. This Australian duo is following the footsteps of artists like The XX and Animal Collective by taking traditional psychadelic rock elements and mixing them with modern electronic elements. The almost dream-like nature of this track makes it perfect to play during a lazy day spent in bed.
