The sheer irony of this song being called ‘Love You From Afar’ in the year of our lord 2020. Damn. LA’s most stunning voice is back with a mid-tempo r&b burner about scorched-earth romance, a bad situation that’s only getting worse.
Set to a galloping beat perfect for driving by your ex’s house at 20 mph peeking through their dusty ass windows, this endlessly catchy jam is built around a powerful chorus: ‘Oh no / Here we go / How did I let this happen / He’s hurting me again and again.’
Talk2Strangers is no stranger *DRUM KIT to songs about lost love, though her last release ‘Finally a Dream’ had us feeling the sun and saturation. With ‘LUFA’ we’re back to reading the flotsam-ass men who lied, deceived, and generally acted like sentient BAPE hoodies.
Let’s talk about this video. Directed by Nicholas Flandro with costumes by Mimi Haddon, it’s as simmering as the song, dancers in white cast in the shadows with vignettes of a bad breakup playing on the big screen. This looks like the inside of an artist’s mind as they go through the hell of conscious uncoupling: dreamlike performance and painful memories to the front.
How gorgeous is this? Despite the heavy subject matter and the pall of darkness, the rich color and vibrance of Talk2Strangers cuts through, a clarion call to embrace the light even if it only exists inside you.
Get into it, and since it’s Halloween, maybe go safely trick-or-treating. Y’know, talk to strangers.
From the artist:
“Many of us are haunted by the toxic relationships of our past, this short film Is a redemption from them”
