On April 11, Philadelphia native Antoine Brewington debuted his independent film, The Perfect Escape. The screening took place at the Regal UA King of Prussia theatre.
Brewington says the film is based on his book, The Perfect Escape, and focuses on the character Brianna Chambers. Actress Nichole Chimere plays Brianna Chambers, who experiences abandonment from her abusive mother at a young age. This results in Chambers later going to jail and having to learn to take control of her life when released. The film takes a deep dive into how Brianna navigates her newfound freedom after her release from prison. Viewers will see Brianna confront her past and develop an unexpected romance along the way.

Crew and cast members attended Brewington’s celebratory milestone and shared a few words on the making of the Philadelphia-based film. Director Antoine Brewington said that the film’s title stems from his lead character, Brianna Chambers. The film shows Chambers taking her trauma and turning it into poetry to escape her life. “Throughout the film, you find out that don’t let your past hold you down,” Brewington said. According to the director, he wanted The Perfect Escape to be a feature film in 2023. With the lack of funding he went to publish his work as a book. Subsequently with the writer’s hard work and dedication, Brewington says it was a long process, but he succeeded in his dream of producing a feature film in 2026.
Brewington credits assistant and casting director Niya Prout for all of her efforts towards the film. Prout’s prior experience in large-scale productions has inspired her transition into a career in film production. On this occasion, Prout said she was proud to work alongside Antoine and help produce his first film. “First, he gave me the script, I was so surprised I almost cried,” shared Prout. The assistant director says she hopes the audience falls in love with the character Brianna, just as she did.

On the carpet, actress Nicole Chimere, who plays the main character, Brianna Chambers, says she drew on her real-life experiences, including the loss of her father, while filming. She shared, “You’re going to hit bumps and valleys, but there’s always a high point, and you have to find that and live in that,” regarding playing her character.
Antoine Brewington said he hopes that people leave the theatre thinking his project was a good film and that there are many more projects in store from the director.
