The Last of Us Season 1 Finale Review

As The Last of Us concludes its first season, it left me more disappointed than it made me crave for another season.

I will say this, the acting between Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey was great during the episode as it was very believable and it made sense for the two character’s arcs. Especially during the famous giraffe scene that was adapted from the game. Shot by shot, and the exact same words were taken from the video game and I thought it was beautiful.

With that said, I became annoyed that there was no urgency of a sense of danger at all for this finale that seemed like a normal episode. Not having too many clickers for this episode of The Last of Us really hurt it. Sure it would have been predictable, but give something to the viewer that shows how dangerous the world is. Don’t tell us from the view of the characters. The show could have developed more of a post-apocalyptic tone if it had said there was no danger as it undermines the purpose of Ellie’s immunity.

I would describe Joel as a straight up psychopath in this episode. As a result of killing so many innocent people who were trying to save millions of lives, he lost his only meaningful connection to the world.

There was too much rushing in the season. Ellie and Joel’s bond never really flourished since they endured a lot of horrors, not just people, in order to build their relationship. This series left me pretty disappointed. The story is dragged out by a number of things that are not necessary for its progression, and people are introduced to characters and backstories they don’t have the time to care about.
