The Last of Us Season 1, Episode 3 Review

By the end of 2023, there will be a major discussion on what are the best television episodes of the year. This week’s The Last of Us will be part of that conversation.

That is because the producers and talent put on a masterpiece of storytelling that brought out the feelings in me in which I care for Frank and Bill than their video game counterparts of The Last of Us.  We see how Bill handled the first hours of the virus outbreak as he barricades himself in his neighborhood as he wanted nothing to do with the military. Flash forward to 2007 and these two meet for the first time.

We see Bill and Frank grow as a couple for the next 15 years. They had their good moments and bad moments, but they still stood together until the end. Even when they showed Joel and Tess in some of the timeline flashbacks as they meet the couple from time to time, the story was still focused on Bill and Frank. Take note studios on how to do these stories correctly.

What started to turn for the worst is when Bill and Frank’s safe zone was raided. Sure, they managed to protect their zone, but it cost them both as Bill was shot. It made me think that he should have taken Joel’s advice and offer that he purposed a few years prior to this.

By the current time of The Last of Us, Frank’s health is declining and he told Bill that it will be his last day with him. This hit the feels right here as they both grew old together. Not only that Frank died, but so did Bill as Ellie found the letter than he left as her and Joel were inspecting Bill’s house. Joel and Ellie should have took the weapons, but they chose not to. However, Ellie took the handgun and that should play into the upcoming episodes.

I love this episode of The Last of Us. It is the best of the season and there is no way any other show will top this episode during this year. Everyone that was involved with this episode of The Last of Us should pat themselves in the back because it is brilliant, phenomenal, and heartbreaking.
