A play about a group of people in therapy may just be the most relatable thing in today’s world.
It’s opening night for ‘The Fears!’ Written by Emma Sheansang and directed by Dan Algrant, ‘The Fears’ play has commenced May 18th at The Pershing Square Signature Center on 480 W 42nd St. Be sure to snag a ticket before July 9th, when the Off-Broadway show officially ends, prices range from $66-$160.e
Taking place in New York City, ‘The Fears’ follows a group of people willing to commit to Buddhist restorative teachings to obtain solace and peace within their lives.
The cast, (Maddie Corman, Kerry Bishé, Natalie Woolams-Torres, Jess Gabor, Mehran Khaghani, Carl Hendrick Louis, Robyn Peterson), producer (Steven Soderbergh), executive producer (John N. Hart Jr.), writer (Emma Sheansang), and director (Dan Algrant), celebrate the night and catch up with The Knokturnal at YOTEL in Times Sqaure post-show.
”It’s about a group of people trying to heal and none of them know how,” says actress Jess Gabor (who plays Katie in the show).
Sheansang captures both satire and comedic relief while she articulates the stories of broken individuals and their tumultuous experience of seeking help though group therapy. ‘The Fears’ addresses vulnerability and struggle of ordinary people who are trying their best to coexist among those that are attempting to do the same.
“Emotional discharges of laughing or crying are the things that help us get over our disfunction,” says executive producer John N Hart Jr.
He continues, “The only way to really do that is with [the] people that you’re around.”
