Quentin Tarantino continues to make music with Ennio Morricone, even without the movie set.
Having worked together for Django Unchained and The Hateful Eight, both Tarantino and Morricone have proven that they make sweet music. It was only time until another collaboration was announced; however it comes with no details of the actual movie. Morricone recently stated in his interview with Deadline, “Tarantino has already told me that there will be a next movie that we are going to make together. … I told him that in the future I would like to have much more time. I would like to start working with him even long before in order to have the time to work, to think about the music, and also to exchange more ideas with him about what I am going to score for him.” Apparently the director has approached the composer to score for The Hateful Eight, after it had wrapped up shooting. At first the composer was asked only to make a theme song but ended up creating the score for the entire movie, which got him an Oscar nomination. The score ended up being the composer’s first Western piece in the last 40 years. In the project Morricone openly stated how much he appreciated the creative freedom given by the director.
Tarantino has never been shy in sharing his appreciation for the 87-yr old composer. Many of the director’s previous works incorporated pieces of Morricone’s older works until the two created their own. But not everything was fine and dandy between the two, after the release of Django Unchained the composer had gone public with comments of disdain for Tarantino’s erratic work with music and cinema. In fact the composer vowed to never work with the director, breaking that vow for The Hateful Eight. After winning a Golden Globe, Tarantino, who had gone to accept on Morricone’s behalf, made public his respect for Morricone’s work, even calling it a true classic.
Though the composer has been nominated for an Oscar a couple times before, he has not won. Many speculate this may be the year the experienced composer wins the award. The Globes win and Oscar nomination already gives an indication towards the director and composer’s partnership, which can only bring more excitement. In fact many unforgettable scenes in The Hateful Eight would not have had such an impact if not for the composer’s powerful score. The news is quite exciting for Tarantino fans however no news has broken about what the next movie will be. Tarantino has thrown around some ideas while on his press release but at the moment the only confirmation fans have is another beautiful score will be present.
