Vevo debuted their wildly successful Halloween celebration for the first time in the US this year with a line up of this year’s top breaking artists. The event was held in a warehouse space in Richmond, California that had a gorgeous view of the San Francisco Bay as a precursor to the evening. The space was decorated to match the spirit of Halloween with grim reapers and thick, twisted, white trees were positioned at the entry way. The attending guests gasped at the splendor of the decor which undoubtedly transported them to another world for the night. The decor was beautifully executed and perfectly embodied the theme of the night: The Other World. The decor was a big hit with the guests as many took photos with the set up as their background for their festive gram photos and topped them off with #vevohalloween.
The music of the night was performed by SZA, Khalid, Aminé, Julia Michaels and Jessie Reyez. Each artist played a thirty minute set which was broken up into segments of dancing with DJ Oreo’s mashup of tunes while the artists got ready backstage. Each artist’s set had its own visuals as well as light panels and accompanying shows which were an impressive feat to build as the lead time between each set was only about half an hour.
SZA kicked off the night by performing her hits “Weekend,” “Broken Clocks,” “Drew Barrymore” and “Love Galore.”Aminé then took the stage and sang some of his hits as well with “Caroline” and “Red Mercedes” with a little bit of a Bay Area twist. Jessie Reyes entered the stage with an IT theme by releasing the iconic signature red balloon from the film at the beginning of her set. Julia Michaels performed in a whimsical but sultry set in her Frida Khalo costume and sang covers of Justin Bieber’s “Sorry,” Hailee Steinfeld’s “Love Myself,” and Selena Gomez’s “Bad Liar” before she finished with her own hit “Issues.” Khalid closed the show by performing his chart topping hits “Location,” “American Teen,” as well as “Young Dumb & Broke.”
The crowd went wild with every set as there was a little bit of everything for everyone. Each artist is had such different styles of music that there was a great variety for a night that is just all about having fun dressed up as someone else. The impressive line up was staggered with dancing to prepare the crowd for the style of music that is to come. The crowd was hyped from the beginning to the end of the show which is no easy feat considering that the sets were not consecutive.
Vevo’s iconic Halloween concert has finally come to the US and it looks like it is here to stay. For those who want to view the shows or relive it, the videos will go live on Halloween.
