On Friday September 9th on the corner of Spring Street and Lafayette La Bodega Baque was the place to be amidst the buzz of fashion week. Artist Angelo Baque launched an Awake Clothing x UPS collection.
Baque writes on his instagram “A collection that celebrates and empowers future fashion designers and small business owners. 100% of the profits will fund programming and scholarships for @fashionhighnyc and its students. I am inspired to see what the future of design will look like – respect to @ups @nyfw for supporting the integrity of this collab and its intention from all sides. #unidosparasiempre.”
The pop up included the Awake Clothing x UPS Collection available for purchase. Other brands included in the event were: Kids of Immigrants, Luar, Anima Mundi, Rizos Curls, Mexico In My Pocket, Devocion Coffee, Aqua Bonita, Pisqueya, Becalia Botanicals, and Solano Exp.
Attendees were greeted with mixed drinks and a DJ at spinning records at the door. The event was filled with love and celebration. Highlighting Latino pride and unity. It was a genuine experience that Baque intentionally curated. For Baque, it was a full circle moment taking over the bodega he would hang out at in his teens.
On the wall of the bodega Baque writes, “I wanted to bring intention to this partnership and design with UPS – highlighting our mutual dedication to empowering and unifying current and future Latinx small business. When I create I do so to bring people together. La Bodega Baque es una expresión.”
