Kalan.FrFr Drops “Light Breeze” Music Video, Talks His Album 222 And Giving Back To His Community

by Chantell Hayden October 19, 2022
written by Chantell Hayden

The West Coast is experiencing what some would define as a musical renaissance. For the past few years, there’s been a huge emergence of talent hailing from the city of Los Angeles and taking the nation by storm, including Roddy Richh, rap duo BlueBucksClan, 1TakeJay and Blxst just to name a few.

And joining that list is L.A. bred newcomer Kalan.FrFr.

But rap wasn’t always on his radar. After establishing a pretty solid football career at San Diego State University, a then 21-year old Kalan had to unexpectedly end his time on the field and shifted his focus to pursuing music full time.

His biggest song “Never Lose You” has over 5 million views on YouTube and his infectious discography has gained him 628,000 monthly listeners on Spotify.

So, it came as no surprise when he caught the eye of Roc Nation and signed on the dotted line officially to be a part of the company founded by Jay-Z. He even made his Made In America Festival debut this year as a Roc Nation artist.

We caught up with the rap star to talk about his new album 222, his appreciation for fashion and his outlook on the music industry as a business.

We get deep and touch on his deep connection with his spirituality and how it’s impacted his career, as well as his dedication to fighting the negative stigmas surrounding special needs – an issue the rapper holds near to his heart.

Last month, the rapper hosted his TwoFr Day annual charity event, where he donates clothes, school supplies and more to his former community and high school in Compton, CA. A portion of the proceeds were donated to the Compton Unified School District Special Needs Program.

On a lighter note, he also speaks about his genuine love for his job and making music, and how he’s determined to not let the pressures of life and work stop him from enjoying the fruits of his labor.

“I’m not gonna say I’m not having fun because it’s fun. This is fun, my job is fun. But, it’s still my job at the end of the day. So, I treat it like work. I feel like this next stage I’m at in my life, I’m gonna have a lot more fun with the perks of being a rapper” says Kalan.FrFr.

As for what’s next for Kalan.FrFr?

“The video ‘Light Breeze‘ finna drop. So, just get ready for the video, it’s gonna be fire” he said.

Fire would be an understatement. The new music video for the melodic trap bop off his 222 album follows the rapper around his city of L.A.

Kalan.FrFr may be a rookie in the rap game but he carries his self like a veteran. The lifestyle comes easy to him and it shows.

In the video for “Light Breeze,” released yesterday, he raps “All you can see is a light breeze, Sunroof back, A/C riding through the light, light speed” as he rides past palm trees in foreign cars from sun up to sun down.

Watch out interview with Kalan.FrFr below.

On The Scene: Powerhouse 2021

by Taylor Oliphant November 25, 2021
written by Taylor Oliphant

Powerhouse 2021 was definitely an exciting show this weekend! Hosted by Power 105.1 at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ; the show featured artists B-Lovee, Capella Grey, Fivio Foreign, Bobby Shmurda, Rowdy Rebel, Moneybagg Yo, DJ Spinking, Polo G, Roddy Ricch, Saweetie, Migos, and headliner Lil Baby. Each set was filled with surprises that the audience did not expect.

Bronx rapper B-Lovee opened the show with his TikTok smash, “My Everything” getting the audience warmed up for an exciting night. Capella Grey performed his mega hit “Gyalis” as the audience danced and sang to his music. To the pleasant surprise of the crowd, he brought out upcoming Bronx artist Swave HMG to perform his rising single “Blue Faces.” The crowd of over 60,000 people became excited as Polo G entered the stage, many fans held their phone flashlights as they prepared for him to enter the stage. He performed hits such as “Rapstar” and “Martin and Gina.” Fivio Foreign brought an exhilarating energy as he performed drill hits such as “Big Drip” and “Wetty.” He brought out rapper DreamDoll to perform their hit single “Ah Ah Ah.” The crowd went crazy watching them perform together!

The self proclaimed ‘Icy Girl’ Saweetie performed and had the audience jumping out of their seats. She went around the crowd complimenting the “icy girls” in the audience as fans screamed and danced. She performed hits such as “My Type” and “Best Friend.” DJ Spinking had audience members speculating who he would bring out to perform on stage. The surprise performers included Sleepy Hallow, Fetty Wap and A Boogie. The audience members jumped out of their seats as Sleepy Hallow entered the stage, the crowd started to utter “Free Sheff G” as he performed hit single “2055.” It was a pleasant surprise seeing Fetty Wap perform. This performance was Fetty’s first performance since his release from his arrest at Rolling Loud in 2021. He brought nostalgia to the arena performing classic hits such as “RGF Island” and “Trap Queen.” A Boogie performed hits such as “Timeless” and “Look Back at It.”

Moneybagg Yo brought his southern charm to the stage, performing hits such as “Time Today” “Said Sum” and “Wockesha.” Bobby Shmurda ignited the stage with fellow GS9 members Rowdy Rebel and Fetty Luciano. They performed “Computers,” “Hot Boy,” and “Beam Jawn.” Bobby got the crowd excited by jumping into the crowd, crowd surfing, and doing his infamous dances. The performance was one of the most exciting of the night, the entire crowd could be heard singing the songs with Rowdy and Bobby.

Roddy Ricch performed hit singles “The Box” and “Late at Night.” The catchy melodies of his music could be heard echoing through the entire arena. Migos had an electrifying performance, performing classic songs such as “Hannah Montana,” “Motorsport,” “Fight Night” and newer singles “Need It” and “Straightenin.” Lil Baby brought the show home at the end of the night. He had a thrilling performance, performing singles like “We Paid” “Drip Too Hard” and “Errbody.” His energy was invigorating and fans were excited to see him. The cheers and screams from the audience could be heard as he performed throughout the remainder of the night.

Overall, Powerhouse 2021 was a great experience. The fans seemed to enjoy it and the lineup of artists put on an entertaining show that will be remembered for years to come!

On The Scene: Made in America Day 2 [Photos]

by Iffat Nur September 7, 2021
written by Iffat Nur

As clouds hovered ominously over festival grounds, the goers of Liberty Jeffrey Park were anything but mellowed down. Day 2 of MADE IN AMERICA boasted an equally (if not more) impressive line-up of artists from Doja Cat, Roddy Ricch, Bobby Shmurda, Freddie Gibbs, and Moneybagg Yo, to the headliner Justin Bieber. For many of these artists, this has been the first major appearance in years, and the performances spoke loudly of how psyched they were to be back.

The rain shower did anything but falter Bobby Shmurda’s parade. With a grand reappearance since incarceration, Bobby kept the crowd moshing to the brims, at one point even hopping offstage into the photo pit. At the end of the set, he paid tribute to the anniversary of a friend’s death, to which he brought his friend’s daughter on stage.

Roddy Ricch, along with many other rappers, have clearly taken massive strides in their stage setup and choreography, these days bringing in elaborate set pieces and either a band, backup dancers, or often even both. Roddy Ricch used a centerpiece to kick off a stellar performance which saw him taking his audience through a medley of his top hits, including chart-topper “The Box”.

Doja Cat’s long-awaited performance was nothing short of electric. From every stage plant, back-up dancer, and flash of light, the performance was an impeccable demonstration of choreography that left the crowd wondering “is she even real?”. Doja bounced across albums, performing Juicy, Get Into It (Yuh), Kiss Me More, and Tia Tamera.

Justin Bieber put on an incredible show for his first headliner performance, bringing one after another surprise guest, from Chance the Rapper to Quavo. At the end of the night, the entire festival crowd gathered for one last hurrah, and the energy was unparalleled. Performed by Bieber for the first time in years, “Baby” set the crowd aflame like no other, as fireworks exploded above Rocky Stage in a glorious conclusion to the festival weekend.

As the 10th annual MADE IN AMERICA comes to a close, music lovers walk away rejoiced in the return of live performances and the afterglow of a euphoric release that could only be the product of a weekend of celebration.
