Actor MeKai Curtis is gearing up for the second season of “Power Book III: Raising Kanan” returning in August. The Knockturnal correspondent, Ashley Tiffaney, chatted with Curtis about the series, shared his love for music, and described what a great day looks like to him.
The ’90s set drama series follows the origin story of Kanan Stark played by MeKai Curtis as the younger version of Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson’s Power character on STARZ. Raised by his queenpin mother, Raquel “Raq” Thomas’ played by Patina Miller, in season 1, Kanan began to see just how keeping family first in the streets is a vital part of the game.
Curtis grew to fame beginning his career as a child actor. He starred on Disney XD’s Kirby Buckets from 2014 to 2017. In the interview with the Knockturnal, he discussed music being his first love before acting. “Music has always been a part of who I am,” says Curtis. The actor plays various instruments including the drums and piano. He described the benefits of playing music as a form of therapy to him.
“Power Book III: Raising Kanan” returns on Sunday, August 14 at midnight on the STARZ app, all STARZ streaming, and on-demand platforms, and internationally on the STARZPLAY premium streaming platform across Europe, Latin America and Japan. On linear, it will debut on STARZ at 9:00 PM ET/PT in the U.S. and Canada.
