This year promises to be an extraordinary blend of tradition and spectacle. The recent press night provided a glimpse of the magic to come.
It was a vibrant evening. The night felt deeply spiritual, from mesmerizing Aztec dance performances to drumbeats whose sounds carried throughout the cemetery. As an LA native, I have never attended Día de los Muertos at the Hollywood Forever Cemetary. The magic of this press event made me realize everything I have been missing out on.
This year’s celebration theme, Tonas and Nahuales, emphasizes spiritual animal guides and protectors central to Mesoamerican culture. On October 26th, Hollywood Forever will be transformed with colorful altars, art installations, and live performances. The day will highlight and celebrate these sacred figures and our deep connection to the spirit world, fostering a sense of respect and understanding for this cultural tradition.
Throughout the evening, guests enjoyed authentic Oaxacan cuisine from one of Los Angeles’s iconic restaurants, Guelaguetza. The flavors brought a warm, comforting touch to the night, perfectly paired with sweet pan dulce from Northgate Market—a nostalgic delight that transported many back to childhood. Guests were also treated to specialty cocktails provided by Don Julio.
Later, the talented Ambar Lucid captivated guests with a live music performance. Her ethereal voice floated under the full moon, serenading the attendees. Lucid’s performance and voice felt like a mystical culmination of the night’s celebration. I was excited to hear about the show and performance she will give on the 26th.
