Kogonada’s film “After Yang” first premiered at Cannes Festival this past summer, and then at the Sundance Film Festival in January, where it earned the prestigious Alfred P. Sloan prize, for outstanding feature film about science or technology.
HBO Max’s Unpregnant premiered this past Wednesday, September 9th at both an L.A. Drive-in and virtual screening. Written and directed by Rachel Lee Goldenberg, Unpregnant succeeds in its admirable attempt to humanize the very sensitive topic of abortion.
At first glance, you may assume Unpregnant, starring Barbie Ferreira and Haley Lu Richardson is the typical coming-of-age road trip movie where two ex-best friends rekindle their lost friendship amidst quirky heist schemes and amateur adventures.
Cameras flashed in the lobby of the MoMA on Monday evening as stars of The Chaperone walked across the red carpet laid out for the premiere screening event. PBS Distribution and Masterpiece films hosted the event just ahead of the film’s opening in New York on March 29th.
“You grow up around something and it feels like nothing” says the character Jin in Columbus, the directorial debut from Kogonada.
