I walked into The Brothers Size with high expectations. After all, Tarell Alvin McCraney wrote one of my favorite films, the 2016 Oscar winner for Best Picture, Moonlight, and the production starred one of my favorite actors, the inimitable André Holland.
When you think about Black love stories, certain titles always rise to the surface, such as Love Jones, Love & Basketball, Brown Sugar, Crooklyn, Do the Right Thing, and She’s Gotta Have It. They’re not just movies, but cultural touchstones that have shaped the way we see love, community, and creative ambition through a distinctly Black lens.
The actor opens up about his new film, a soulful love story set against the backdrop of a rapidly changing Brooklyn, and why preserving community spaces is as urgent as ever.

A serviceable adaptation of a revolutionary novel, ‘Passing’ is pleasing to the senses but ultimately hollow.
