New York Fashion Week: Men’s welcomed a new collection from Suit Supply inspired by contemporary artist Mark Rothko at their showroom in SoHo.
Hues of grey, blue, navy, and some maroon combined with the heavy duty materials, Suit Supply was able to compliment aesthetic complexity with workplace practicality. Grid pattern jackets paired with checkered vests give this collection a nostalgic feeling, yet the color palette and pairing options left room for contemporary styling.
Leaving the vests partially open under the coats gives these tailored silhouettes more depth, it lets the shape of the human form be shown rather than be hidden. The well fitting cropped pants accentuated the upper portion of the look, sporting dress socks to match. Most everyone of the looks was accessorized with a tie to bring everything together, albeit not all ties were the same. Similarities amongst the ties consist of stripes, spots, and checkers as well as an occasional solid bow tie.
Using Rothko as inspiration, the collection featured layered pieces in many different forms. Thick knits with button ups underneath paired with a vest and a jacket were among the severely layered looks. The ending of the show was rather unorthodox as well. Showing the pieces in their natural habitats, the models came down into the streets shot group pictures in the middle of Broome street.
