The second annual Baraka Fundraiser occurred on September 18 at Mateo & 7th Art Gallery in Los Angeles.

The gala raised funds and awareness for refugee women and children, totaling over $170,000 benefitting the Bayat Foundation and Global Empowerment Mission — two international organizations working to end the global refugee crisis.

This year, the global refugee population has reached a new high, with numbers exceeding 30 million people. As children of refugees who escaped war and turmoil, and to combat this awful statistic, the Sozahdah sisters work to assist refugees and solve the global refugee crisis which has left over 100 million people displaced worldwide due to persecution, conflict, violence, and human rights violations.

“We will make a difference in the world by lightening the burdens of another,” the Sozahdah Family stated. “We must be the change we wish to see.”

The gala is an example of how the Sozahdah sisters are changing the world. Many celebrities were in attendance at the black-tie charity fundraiser, including Will.i.am, Terrence Jenkins, Lil Jon, local business owners, influencers, and more. Chef Bryan Saure provided the delicious food for the event, while one of a kind art pieces from Shepard Fairey, LeRoy Neiman, and Andy Warhol were auctioned off to benefit the charities. Donations will directly help with quality healthcare for women and newborns, increase access to education, provide economic empowerment through entrepreneurship, as well as social justice and cultural preservation.

The Sozahdah sisters will soon further expand their reach and philanthropic heartbeat in an upcoming docuseries set to air in 2023.
