The Sienna Li fall/winter 2019 collection “Polarity” runway show was an immersive experience that took us back to the 20th century with an air of fantasy surrounding it all.
The show took place at the Jane Hotel on February 13th, a historic building in its own right, known for lodging the survivors of the Titanic in 1912. Dramatic red curtains provided a backdrop for the runway and period portraiture hung on the walls. Spectators sat on upholstered couches and benches reminiscent of an early 20th-century living room belonging to someone in society’s upper class. The setting was appropriate for the time period that inspired the collection and proved essential for making the designs stand out.
Check out some of the trends we caught onto during the collection’s debut:
Leopard Print
A hint of leopard print made its way into the detail of a few pieces, adding a wild sense of sophistication to the collection. The animal print embodied a subtle flair, complementing the light, airy garments it was used to accentuate.
Plaid
Appearing as a common theme within the collection, the variety of designs that featured plaid demonstrated how versatile the pattern truly is. Whether included as sleeves, pockets, a jacket, or a floor-length skirt, a typically drab version of brown plaid fabric gave attitude to delicate lace.
Sheer Lace
Tops with sheer lace fabric brought a sexy feel to the whimsical ambiance of the show. The look tip-toed the line between heroine and damsel in distress–in a very good way.
Embroidered Lapels
Embroidery has a way of changing a standard piece into a statement piece, and the lapels on the coats featured in the collection did just that. Matching embroidered coat pocket flaps sealed the deal on this look.
Bold Stripes
There’s strength in numbers as far as stripes are concerned, and the bold stripes in this season’s Sienna Li collection said that loud and clear. Along with the stripes, the prominent shoulders featured on the designs brought the point home.
