Missoni’s Summer Collection debut at Milan Fashion Week was filled with soft pastels and warm colors.
Fishnet, crochet, and tri-blend fabric were common motifs among the garments. Sheer dresses, maxi skirts and oversized cardigans swung fluidly down the runway. Each girl model had bright eye shadow that stood out yet didn’t distract from the looks. Overall, Angela Missoni is carrying her parents legacy well, and succeeded in creating a beautiful collection.
We had the opportunity to talk about the makeup looks more in depth with lead makeup artist, Lynsey Alexander from MAC Cosmetics. She describes how she created the look of the day and what products were used.
“What inspired the look is 90’s cool girls. Think Amber Valetta shot by Craig McDean. Basically, late 80s/ early 90s graphic shapes with pastel eyeliner so it’s a little bit ‘punky’ in its shape but very straight and very elongated only on the top of the eye. It is in an array of colors, we’ve got a lilac, bowie blue and pistachio green. Lips are kind of complimentary using peach or pink and the secret is that the eyeliner and the lips are very matte. Skin is really radiant and glossy. There is no mascara and no eyebrows . What makes it quite modern is the lack of black. It’s all about color and skin tone, that’s the fun element of it. It’s all about individuality, so we are looking at the girls picking a color for them depending on their outfit and eye color and then choosing what finish they get.”
