San Diego Comic-Con returned last week with renewed energy after a subdued presence in the previous two years due to the pandemic and the SAG-AFTRA strikes.
The event faced several challenges, including issues with a new security company struggling with line management, a building-wide alarm triggered by a burnt lunch in a microwave, and HBO MAX’s offsite activation for The Penguin series catching fire just hours before its scheduled opening.
Many booths also experienced payment issues days after an IT outage. Despite these setbacks, there were notable highlights and memorable moments from this year’s Comic-Con.
I attended San Diego Comic-Con for the IMDb boat event, specifically for the Form TV show portion. The IMDb boat, docked at Fifth Avenue Landing directly behind the San Diego Convention Center, was open to guests and entertainment fans from Thursday through Saturday (July 25-27). IMDb, known as the world’s most popular and authoritative source for information on movies, TV shows, and celebrities, created significant buzz among attendees.
Throughout SDCC, fans gathered outside the boat, hoping to catch a glimpse of their favorite celebrities who were stopping by for interviews. Lucky fans onboard enjoyed meet-and-greets and autograph signings.
The boat featured two levels to explore, including the DiGiorno Relax and Recharge Lounge, which served complimentary drinks and new, limited-edition pizzas inspired by the upcoming release of Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine.
Paramount+ also made a significant impact by bringing The Lodge back to San Diego Comic-Con for a second year, featuring more titles, iconic franchise celebrations, and immersive activations than ever before. Located at the Gaslamp’s Happy Does, this interactive fan experience was open to the public from July 24 from 6–10pm, July 25-27 from 12–10pm daily, and July 28 from 10am–7pm.
During its second cross-country tour, Paramount+’s The Lodge reached tens of thousands of fans. At its seventh stop in 2024, The Lodge provided the ultimate fan experience with themed activations and take-home swag for fans of all ages from popular titles and franchises like STAR TREK, TALES OF THE TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES, IF, SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS, and many more. The energy and enthusiasm from attendees were palpable, making these events standout highlights of Comic-Con this year.
