Samantha Black and Rich Girl Candy presented their 2016 S/S Collections During NYFW.
On Tuesday – Sept 15 SAMANTHA BLACK and Mieka Joi of RICH GIRL CANDY presented their 2016 NYFW Spring/Summer collections at the Apostles Ballroom in Chelsea. Hosted by PYNK Magazine, the event drew quite the crowd, from NBA athlete Derrick Rose, celebrity stylist Ty Hunter, Victoria Secret model Sessilee Lopez, singer Wynter Gordon and more in sake of another fabulous New York Fashion Week event. The runway show opened with a powerful performance by V. Bozeman of FOX’s Hit drama series EMPIRE, singing “What is Love” – the ideal introduction song followed by two presentations — RGC and Sammy B.
New York Native and LIFETIME’s Project Runway alum, Samantha Black (Sammy B) is brilliant in this collection, with her distinct bold colors, and signature black & white jail-stripes. The designer, who finished a season of PR All Stars earlier this year told us, “For my direction this season, I decided not to design based on a theme, but rather a mood,” which is certainly what was exuded as each model strut down the runway in Sammy B, “my goal was to evoke the spirit of the NYC ‘It Girl’ – always on the go, effortlessly standing out”.
Rich Girl Candy’s Mieka Joi launched her online brand back in 2013 and took it all the way to NYFW. Former celebrity stylist, and ex-girlfriend of Chicago Bulls star Derrick Rose (whom he shares a child with – Derrick Rose Jr.), takes it to the designer level with her runway debut of RGC. Representing the ‘Downtown Rich Girl’, one who is smart, edgy and has amazing style, Rich Girl Candy embodies the girl who is ready for any occasion.
After the Runway, the ladies were honored with a #PynkPowerDinner the following day, with a special menu procured by New York City gem Omar’s Kitchen held at TrimLab showroom, in the heart of NYCs garment district; a great close to a spectacular fashion week.
