Last Wednesday, ASCAP held their 7th annual award ceremony at Subrosa Nightclub in New York City.
ASCAP (The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) hosted their “Women Behind The Music” series honoring hip-hop industry veterans Salt-N-Pepa for their accomplishments over the last 30 years in music. The venue was held in a cozy, dim lit setting with Subrosa’s iconic red lights, giving a sophisticated, stylish ambience along with live music from DJ Quiana Parks serving up hip-hop classics with a modern twist.
BelAire Rose sponsored the night by offering complimentary drinks to guests in preparation for Salt-N-Pepa’s appearance on stage. The intimate event consisted of a short talk with the honorees, followed by a surprise performance of the number one hit “Shoop.” ASCAP’s EVP Membership John Titta and VP Membership, Rhythm & Soul Nicole George-Middleton presented the honorary plaques to the artists to conclude the event.
“We love each other. We actually had couples’ counseling, it’s like a marriage. We don’t fight that much, not anymore. I think our authenticity and chemistry are combustable, we’re the yin and the yang. We always say there’s a Salt-N-Pepa in every relationship. As far as hip-hop is concerned, I think we were a voice for women, we were bold and brought femininity to hip-hop and both women and men could identify with that,” Salt-N-Pepa said.
