Mirror, mirror, here’s the cue—2025’s Snow White has something new!

The Knockturnal was beyond thrilled to be invited to an exclusive advanced screening of Disney’s live-action Snow White at the AMC in Century City, where they truly rolled out the royal treatment. Upon arrival, I was greeted with a magical activation of Snow White’s cottage. Each part of the whimsical house featured a unique photo op, offering an enchanting backdrop for pictures. My favorite? The slow-motion video of me dramatically exiting the cottage, which was too fun to resist. Plus, there were activity books and Snow White-branded postcards for everyone to take home as sweet keepsakes. Inside the AMC theater, we were treated to complimentary soda and popcorn, which only added to the moviegoing experience. It was such a delightful afternoon filled with Disney magic, making the screening feel more like an experience than just a film showing.

Disney’s live-action adaptations have been hit or miss, but this one truly shines. I’m excited to report that the film not only stays faithful to the beloved classic but also breathes new life into Snow White’s character and the iconic characters around her. It’s a fresh take that honors the original story while adding exciting new elements, making it enjoyable for both old and new fans alike. One of the biggest changes is how the character of Snow White herself is portrayed.

In the original animated version, Snow White is sweet, innocent, and passive, with her role primarily being that of a damsel in distress. While that works for the 1937 classic, this new Snow White gives her a more proactive, independent personality that feels in tune with modern sensibilities. This version of Snow White is no longer waiting for a prince to rescue her; instead, she actively shapes her own fate, standing up for herself and others, and becoming a more relatable and empowered character for today’s audience. The iconic elements that fans of the 1937 animated classic know and love are still there—Snow White’s kindness, her bond with the animals, the magic mirror, and, of course, the dramatic apple—but they are woven into a story that feels more fleshed out and nuanced. The film honors the essence of the classic tale while adding exciting new elements, whether it’s the evolving relationships between characters or the stunning visual effects that bring the magical world to life in vibrant new ways.

This fresh take on Snow White manages to please both long-time fans of the classic and newcomers alike, striking a balance between nostalgia and modern sensibilities. It’s a beautiful homage to the original while confidently stepping forward into the future.
