AEG Presents announced their 2023 lineup for the Re: SET Concert Series, launched this year. Re: SET is a traveling series of outdoor concerts, and this year, it included a strong lineup of headliners and performers such as boygenius, LCD Soundsystem, and Steve Lacy.
The Knockturnal attended the second and sold-out night of the series festival, where the lineup included alternative/indie/r&b artists such as Bartees Strange, Dijon, Clairo, and headliner Boygenius. Friday night’s lineup held beloved artists such as headliner LCD Soundsystem, Jamie xx, Idles, L’Rain, and Sunday’s show held Steve Lacy, James Blake, Toro y Moi, Fousheé, and more.
The crowd began to elevate when the queen of bedroom pop, Clairo, stepped onto the stage. Fans lost their minds hearing 70s-infused tracks such as “Bags” and “Amoeba.” Clairo carries such ethereal energy on stage and is extremely reminiscent of a mix between Bob Dylan’s stage presence, Faye Webster’s soft-pop sonic production, and lyrically like Joni Mitchell.
Before the boys took the stage, the supergroup handed their platform over to an indigenous member of the Matinecock Turkey clan, Tecumseh Ceaser, where he raised awareness for water pollution and advocated for environmental conservation. Ceaser advocates for Indigenous American rights as a cultural consultant and Indigenous artist.
The crowd erupted in roars when the supergroup trio hit the stage. Consisting of Julien Baker, Lucy Dacus, and Phoebe Bridgers, boy genius is a group to celebrate. Re: SET’s concept offers both artists and fans the opportunity to have an immersive day of music, where artists deliver full-stage sets on a single stage, and there are no scheduling conflicts. Artists and fans can fully indulge themselves in a festival experience without interruptions. A win-win for music fans everywhere.
Bridgers had also played Forest Hills last June while on the road for her “Reunion Tour” alongside Dacus, who had the honor of opening the show as a special guest.
Lining up hours before the show, fans eagerly anticipated boygenius’ euphoric set. They screamed every word and lyric to their music. A force to be reckoned with, the trio began their set with live footage backstage, performing “Without You Without Them” projected on the screen. Their intro tugged on the heartstrings of each fan in Forest Hills Stadium before they stormed the stage with their song “$20”.
Boygenius played both songs from their latest album, the record, music from their debut EP, as well as music from the artist’s solo discographies.
The concert series also partnered with menus and restaurants representing New York City’s diverse restaurant scene, such as Mighty Quinn BBQ, Norbertos Empanadas, Bulldog Burgers, and more.
The Re: SET Concert series is a testament to fans and artists.
