Teyana Taylor has quickly become a musical powerhouse over the years. As a mother, artist, entrepreneur, and wifey, the talented visionary has a lot on her plate but isn’t ready to slow down yet.
She shows just how resilient she can be her new Red Bull Music documentary entitled Assembly Required: House of Petunia which premiered yesterday on the media group’s official YouTube channel.
In the one-hour film, Teyana gives us an exclusive behind the scenes look at the making of House of Petunia. More than just a concert, House of Petunia is a beautiful and chaotic musical experience that perfectly embodies the singer’s wildest imaginations.
Inspired by her alter ego “Petty Petunia,” the show incorporates everything that inspires her in to one major production. House of Petunia is influenced by ball culture made popular by the LGBTQ+ community and incorporates elements of the subculture throughout the whole show.
From the phenomenal dancers and the fresh choreography to the outrageously hypnotizing costumes, the film gives us a front row seat to Teyana’s creative mind and highlights all her layers in a way we’ve never seen before. It touches on Teyana trying to juggle motherhood and a thriving career while putting together an entire show from start to finish.
With the help of her relatively small but solid team made up of her momager Nikki Taylor, husband Iman Shumpert, band director Carrington and choreographer Coco Gilbert, the show takes place in her hometown of NYC and features celebrity appearances from Fabolous, Method Man and Usher.
House of Petunia is not only entertaining, but it’s also inspirational, bold, experimental and electric all at the same time. Think of everything you’d want to see from your favorite artist in concert but amplified by a thousand!
