We all have watched Queen Phylicia Rashad for decades now, in all her greatness as an actress on TV & Film. However, she is now leaning into the director’s chair and it is something we love to see. After directing “Purpose,” which won the Tony Award for Best Play in 2025 she is now heading to North Carolina for the next big thing.
“Immediate Family” written by Tony award winner Paul Oakley Stovall will hit the stage for a regional premiere at Blumenthal Arts July 29th through August 31st at the Booth Playhouse in North Carolina. The play follows the protagonist Jessie, as he heads to a family wedding and struggles to disclose to his family the truth about his sexuality. The play discusses all things from race, family, and sexuality with a comedic spin. Think”Modern Family” meets “Who’s Coming To Dinner”.
The play stars many fresh faces that are true stars: Andy Mientus, Christina Sajous, Elijah Jones, Freddie Fulton, Britney Coleman, Kai Almeda Heath. The chemistry of the cast is undeniably lovely; and the respect mirrors the excitement they all have working with Miss Rashad and Mr. Oakley.
Granted to say that if you are in the mood for a good laugh, filled with a bit of drama and you find yourself in North Carolina from July 29th through August 31st make sure you check out “Immediate Family” at Booth Playhouse, tickets on sale now.
