Phil Lord and Chris Miller to Team Up on Han Solo Spin-Off Film

The dynamic duo prepare to take on their biggest challenge yet, bringing their unique vision to one of the most beloved characters in sci-fi history.

When you hear about a film project that Phil Lord and Chris Miller are taking, it’s usually one that’s a pretty terrible idea on paper. Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, a 21 Jump Street reboot, a movie centered on Lego’s, then a sequel to 21 Jump Street…none of these sounded like good ideas at the time. Yet each of these movies were huge successes and have led to Lord and Miller being two of the most sought after directors in the business. Which only makes sense that now they’re taking on what may be the best idea of their career — a Han Solo spin-off film.

With a script from Star Wars vet Lawrence Kasdan and his son Jon Kasdan, it’s safe to say that the film is in good hands. Commenting on landing the film, Lord and Miller said,

This is the first film we’ve worked on that seems like a good idea to begin with. We promise to take risks, to give the audience a fresh experience, and we pledge ourselves to be faithful stewards of these characters who mean so much to us. This is a dream come true for us. And not the kind of dream where you’re late for work and all your clothes are made of pudding, but the kind of dream where you get to make a film with some of the greatest characters ever, in a film franchise you’ve loved since before you can remember having dreams at all

The film, slated for a May 25, 2018 release, will center on how a young Han Solo became the smuggler, thief, and scoundrel we meet in the original Star Wars trilogy. You can read on for more details and quotes over at the official Star Wars website.
