On Saturday, June 4th, The Knockturnal attended a sold-out performance by Australian singer-songwriter Vance Joy at Pier 17.
It was a beautiful evening to be attending an open-air concert on the water. Vance Joy is embarking on the “In Our Own Sweet Time” tour to promote his new album of the same name, which comes out June 10th.
He performed “Mess Is Mine,” “Missing Piece,” “Like Gold,” and an upbeat tune called “Clarity” from his new album. Another highlight was the song “Every Side of You.” Vance pulled out his ukulele for a fan favorite called “Saturday Sun.” He also played “I’m With You.”
Before performing “Looking at Me Like That,” he introduced the band, which included Will Morrison on saxophone and Sam Woodbury on the guitar. He played “Wasted Time” from his first album and also “Georgia.” Vance told the crowd how much he enjoyed the venue and the view of the city that it offered.
He said that “Don’t Fade” was the first song he wrote for the new album and that the rest of the songs followed from it. He also explained that his song “Catalonia” was dedicated to the region of Catalonia in Spain where he lived for a time.
Vance was brought his ukulele for his second-to-last song, “Riptide,” to which the whole crowd sang along. He closed the show with “Lay It On Me” and handed his setlist to a fan. We had a wonderful time. Go get your tickets to Vance Joy’s world tour today!
