The revolution of the internet has made access to international fashion as easy as a touch of a button from the comfort of a couch.
As fashion becomes increasingly global and rapidly accessible, there are still only a handful of Chinese designers who have visibility to American consumers. This season Tsmall, a luxury e-commerce platform, teams up with the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) to showcase multiple Chinese designers ranging from well-known powerhouses to up and comers in the industry. Peacebird & Chen Peng, and Li-Ning both showcased collections for the first time during New York Fashion Week.
Peacebird & Cheng’s collection is heavily influenced by American culture of the eighties with box cut tailoring, use of the Cola-Cola blazed on sweatshirts, jeans and Vans sneakers, and what can only be described as mom jeans. It is a fun and refreshing collection. We saw bright hues of clashing color thrown together in a mismatch of sheer style.
Li-Ning runway executed a range of sneakers, showing the hot-right-now dad shoe trend of cropped pants and high socks. According to the label the collection was a “tension between past and future, man and nature”. The heavily colored tops were paired perfectly with dazzling silver, black and white soles, mixing monochromes with bright hues.
The collections were both met with wide acclaim and assimilated perfectly into American trends of the season.
