On The Scene: Picture This Showcase at Republic Records

Picture This is a duo from Ireland. They had a showcase at Republic Records last week as they are nearing their official U.S. debut.

Jimmy Rainsford and Ryan Hennessy are the duo: Picture This.

They have two other bandmates who play the bass and the guitar as well. Jimmy does some background vocals and he plays the drums. While Ryan, plays the guitar and is the main vocalist.

The showcase took place in an intimate setting. There was a mini stage right in the middle of the offices at Republic Records and some bleacher style seats facing the stage.

This was not a concert, hence the intimacy.

While I wasn’t as familiar with their music, Picture This delivered a solid performance and won me over.

President and cofounder of Republic Records Avery  Lipman introduced the band and seemed very passionate and excited about the potential of Picture This.

Right after his introduction, the following video featuring “Picture This” was played and they took the stage right after.

The main vocalist Ryan, stood by the mic and took everyone by surprise as he asked everyone “how are you doing?” with his refreshing Irish accent. The crowd knew he was Irish but there was something about hearing it and recognizing that this band is now in America debuting after their huge success back home.

The first song they played was “Never Change”. It was a flawless performance. Every note was on point and every beat was on point.

After the song, Ryan made a public service announcement: “This is weird for us, usually we have a crowd of 1,000 girls screaming in front of us… you can be like that if you want.”

It was an effortlessly humorous comment that relaxed the energy in the room and left one eager to hear more.

The second song was “Let’s Be Young” and they kept that same energy from the first song.

The third song they played was one off their upcoming album, which is set to drop on the 25th of August.

The fourth song was called “Jane”. Ryan was the only one performing it. He belted out the song with his acoustic guitar. One couldn’t help but get goosebumps and really feel the sentiment of every word. Before performing the song, Ryan made it clear, that this is about a girl he once dated, however, her name is NOT Jane. He didn’t want the girl to have the pleasure of having a song named after her. His honesty left the audience giggling.

The fifth song was called “Smell Like Him” and the last and 6th song, was the record that Jimmy said brought the band together. It’s called “Take My Hand”.

Picture This has only been a band for a year and a half and they have already caught so much attention and built so much momentum. To them, this deal with Republic Records and this upcoming album is HUGE. Jimmy even mentioned how they are the first band to make it out of their small town and they couldn’t be more grateful.

Here’s to more success for Picture This. Their album drops August 25th 2017 and they go on tour September 2017.
