NEW YORK, NEW YORK—On Friday, April 28, Disney will take kids of all ages to Neverland once again when “Peter Pan & Wendy” debuts on Disney+. So, naturally, there was no better place to hold the movie’s premiere than on an ACTUAL pirate ship.
Some of Disney’s biggest fans on Instagram and TikTok gathered at the South Street Seaport Museum in their Neverland finest for a pre-screening party, and stepped on board the Wavertree to socialize among pirates, fairies, and lost boys. Attendees included @nicquemarina, @dimitribeauchamp, @jeremythetea, @katherinealice, and @flawlessbytenisha.
Guests helped themselves to a table of h’ordeuvres, while the bar served specialty drinks, including the “Neverland Cocktail” and the “Lost Boys Mocktail”—each sprinkled with pixie dust!
While everyone mingled, stars from the film spoke with reporters on the starboard red carpet. In attendance was Jude Law (Captain Hook), Yara Shahidi (Tinker Bell), Ever Anderson (Wendy), Jim Gaffigan (Smee), and Alyssa Wapanatâhk (Tiger Lily).
Guests were then invited to attend a special screening at the iPic theater, just a short walk away from the pier, where they were surprised with concessions and a blanket. Attendees were also served a nacho platter, with or without chicken, for dinner.
As for the film itself, director David Lowery once again did what he does best: tapping into the power of mythologies. Peter Pan is a story known by every generation, and Peter Pan & Wendy is not only a well-done adaptation of the J.M. Barrie work and a retelling of the 1953 Disney classic, but is also beautifully aware of itself. We can only hope David Lowery will do us a great service by diving deep into more Disney classics—and their original source material.
You can stream Disney’s ‘Peter Pan & Wendy’ exclusively on Disney+ starting on April 28.
