On Tuesday, January 29, the Girls Night Out premiere of What Men Want took place at the Alamo Drafthouse in Brooklyn.
The event included a live tarot card reading session by Kim Allen, themed cocktails, panel discussion introduced by Yandi Smith, and a green screen photo booth emulating a poker scene with Ali Davis (Taraji P. Henson).
Taraji, who just recently received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, plays a sports agent who feels overlooked and undermined by her male counterparts. As she begins to question her ability to understand men, she is suddenly granted, by a local psychic, with the power to hear men’s thoughts.
As Ali uses these powers to pave her way to the top of the male-dominated agency, she falls for a bartender (Aldis Hodge), after first using him to impress the family of an up and coming basketball star that she is seeking to sign.
The most triumphant part of the film is when Ali discovers how her authentic self is just what her career needs. Once she lets her heart lead and learns to compete on her own terms, she is free to be the woman that she is and learns the responsibility of being truthful.
What Men Want, produced by Will Packer and James Lopez, with co-stars Tracy Morgan, Erykah Badu, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Josh Brener, Tamala Jones, Max Greenfield, and Phoebe Robinson, is a modern-day response to Mel Gibson’s What Women Want, which was released almost 20 years ago. The film is sensational, hilarious, and intent with its anthem of self-acceptance, womanhood, and freedom.
What Men Want is set to hit theaters on February 8. Watch the trailer below:
