Thursday September 16th, one of the last summer evenings of the season.
The LA sunset and weather were in Marcell Von Berlin’s favor. A perfect evening for his LA fashion show debut. The orange carpet and backdrop popped amongst the greenery surrounding the venue. The energy was vibrant and buzzing backstage as models began dressing in their looks. I met with Marcell backstage and asked him a few questions about his collection before it hit the runway for the world to see. “The world of Marcell von Berlin is to be yourself, celebrating yourself. And what makes people beautiful? Self confidence. Go on the street and be visible. I recognize what I always have in my collection is orange. And then I was like, ‘Oh my god, this is my first fashion show. And orange is the real color in each collection.’ So, I was like, why don’t I turn everything orange? So people can really see and understand the world of Marcell von Berlin. I was location scouting and I told my producers, ‘Orange. Everything orange!’”
Marcell went on to discuss that being here in LA during the pandemic, he witnessed angelinos embrace comfortable, cozy clothing and knew that at some point we would come back to reality and that was worth celebrating in this collection. The collection is loud, bold, and with a specific message that comes from an authentic place of creation. Marcell explained one of the more difficult parts of the creation process was choosing which pieces to pull from the collection as a whole. Cutting back things he was absolutely in love with because of this reason or another. In the end, he was so happy with every single piece that walked out onto the runway and felt that people would resonate with the message. It was a beautiful experience to witness Marcell backstage as he prepared for his first show. As many people from his team were coming toward him with questions, Marcell kept a grace and calm energy throughout. At the end of the show he walked down the runway with his models on either side of him and was met with a standing ovation. The evening ended with an after party that was just as great as the show itself. Attendees included 24kGoldn, Angelica Ross, Bre-Z, Cassie, Charlotte Mckinney, Elijah Boothe, Evan Ross, Guapdad 4000, James Goldstein, MAAD, Marta Pozzan, Model Roz, Niecy Nash, Qveen Herby, Rickey Thompson, Slick Woods (Walked), Tamar Braxton, Toni Braxton, and Yung Miami. With an opening performance by Tommy Genesis.
