How exactly would one describe the Watergate scandal? According to director David Mandel, “a very funny tragedy.”

Viewers can see for themselves just how the scandal looks through the eyes of Mandel, as his highly anticipated HBO Max show White House Plumbers is set to make a splash on May 1st. The show delves into the gripping tale of political intrigue and scandal surrounding the infamous Watergate scandal. With an all-star cast and a fresh perspective on one of the most notorious events in American history, this show promises to be a thrilling ride for all viewers.

Based on a true story, White House Plumbers follows the events leading up to the Watergate scandal, which ultimately led to the resignation of President Richard Nixon in 1974. The show focuses on the unlikely duo of G. Gordon Liddy, played by the Justin Theroux and E. Howard Hunt, portrayed by the enigmatic Woody Harleson, who were hired by the Nixon administration to plug leaks and silence political opponents. But as they dig deeper into the dark world of politics, they soon find themselves entangled in a web of deception, corruption, and betrayal. Harrelson and Theroux also prove to be a powerful duo in real life as well, as they were both executive producers of the show as well.

The show features a stellar supporting cast, including Kiernan Shipka as Kevan Hunt, Lena Headey as Dorothy Hunt, Ike Barinholtz as Jeb Magruder, Judy Greer as Fran Liddy and many more.

It isn’t just about the historical events, but also the dark humor and absurdity that surrounded the scandal. With sharp writing and witty dialogue, the show finds humor in the most unexpected places, providing a unique and refreshing take on a well-known story.

The cast gathered at the infamous 92nd Street Y tonight for the red carpet premiere of the hilarious show. In attendance was Justin Theroux, Woody Harrelson, Lena Headey, Judy Greer, Kathleen Turner, Domhnall Gleeson, Kiernan Shipka, Ike Barinholtz, Rich Sommer, Toby Huss, John Carroll Lynch and more. We got to chat with the cast about their experiences bringing these characters to life, check out the conversation below!
