“Let’s take pictures, let’s drink, let’s celebrate, let’s continue to fem the fucking future,” said Janelle Monae on Friday at her Fem The Future brunch which celebrates women in the entertainment industry.
It all went down at the chic West Hollywood eatery Ysabel where Monae partnered with Instagram to host the nominated females of this year 61st Grammy Awards. Some of the powerful females in attendance included Brandi Carlile who is the most nominated woman at this year’s awards and Beyonce’s proteges Chloe and Halle. Also present were Linda Perry, Lauren Jauregui, MILCK, Sabrina Claudio, Sofi Tukker, Tierra Whack, Melanie Fiona, and Baby Ariel among others.
“I just want to see some more action. I’ve heard a lot of lip service but it’s like now what? What are we gonna do? How are we gonna make sure that women are at the table in the front end, you know, not at the back end,” Monae said on the carpet.
She continued, “how are we really gonna have these conversations about diversity and inclusion and make it count and give the opportunities to women for them to shine.”
Inside Kitty Cash provided the tunes and had guests breaking it down to Blueface’s “Thotiana” as they double fisted Champagne and Jumbo Shrimp Skewers. Everyone loves a good brunch turn up especially if it’s to celebrate a good cause.
“It’s everything, it’s the movement, it’s where the world is at right now. Being able to support each other, showing up for your sisters, showing up for the causes that matter and you know it’s not just about being seen visually, it’s really about making the stance and unity,” said R&B artist Melanie Fiona.
