We headed to the New Jersey to check out a small scale music festival featuring some hip progressive artists.
The Guard D’Avant Progressive Music Festival has been occupying Newark’s Military Park every tuesday for the past month. We journeyed to Newark to celebrate the last night of the festival and check out cool acts such as Shabazz Palaces, Rome Fortune, Peter Winstead, Jr, DJ Xander Ferreira. Shabazz Palaces, is a trip-hop duo known for their early collaborations with producers such as Flying Lotus. Rome Fortune might also sound familiar if you’re a connoisseur of Atlanta hip hop, his most notable collaborators include OG Maco and ILoveMakonnen.
The festival itself was chill. The venue was a park surrounded by large buildings downtown and had a very welcoming, yet intimate ambiance. Fans were able to sit or stand as far away or as close to the acts possible, which was both surprising and entertaining. A die-hard Rome Fortune fan danced alongside him as he performed his set, high-fiving Fortune mid-performance. It felt as if someone invited these amazing artists to backyard BBQ and everyone was family, Fortune chilled with fans after his set and as the night progressed more and more people came out to join in the fun.
