Last week Knock attended the Grungy Gentleman New York Fashion Week: Men’s Autumn/Winter 2019 presentation.
Taking place at Slate last Wednesday, the Grungy Gentleman show was filled with influencers and tastemakers. Guests mingled and anxiously awaited the start of the show as they crowded into Slate and took their standing and seated spots. Under the seating were swag bags filled with products aimed at the “Grungy Gentleman.”
The show opened with Styles P walking down the runway in a red and blue, color-blocked sweat suit, followed by Dave East in a more formal matching sweat suit with pocket/zipper detailing. The Autumn/Winter 2019 presentation lived up to its namesake with a variety of relaxed looks combining joggers with blazers. The silhouettes were predominantly form-fitting and sleek. The color palette was muted with mostly grays and neutrals matched with pops of primary color. What stood out most about this presentation and even collection is its inclusion and targeting of a slightly older male demographic than most fashion week presentations. Most of the models were over 30 and the presentation and detail incorporated each model’s unique look.
The highlight of the evening was when the runway music transitioned briefly before introducing Dave East. Not only was his look and walk a standout, but the music was a unique shift from the rest of the presentation.
