Last Wednesday, Prime Video held an exclusive screening with the cast for subscribers in NYC.
“The Horror of Dolores Roach” is set to be one of this Summer’s series to watch out for.
While all episodes will be available on Prime Video tomorrow, the streaming platform held an exclusive screening of the first three episodes for a number of subscribers last Wednesday at Regal Union Square. The series stars Justina Machado, Alejandro Hernandez, Kita Updike, and K. Todd Freeman.
The series follows Dolores Roach (Machado), a woman freshly released from prison after serving 16 years for drug charges. She finds the world around her has changed, but attempts to adjust to it with the help of her old friend Luis (Hernandez) . Unfortunately, trouble soon seeps into Dolores’ life and the fear of going back to prison emerges again. The series is filled with comedy, cannibalism, candles, and so much more.
“The Horror of Dolores Roach” is based on a play entitled “Empanada Loca” by Aaron Mark. The play originally starred Daphne Rubin-Vega who later reprised the role for the Spotify podcast series. The plot has often been described as a modern Sweeney Todd.
The cast and certain production crew were a part of the screening, speaking exclusively to us on the red carpet prior to doors opening.
One noteworthy guest was Blumhouse CEO and founder Jason Blum who discussed his excitement for the show. Blum served as a producer on the project. Additionally, he expressed his excitement for a number of other Blumhouse projects coming to theaters soon including “Five Nights at Freddy’s” and “Insidious.”
“The Horror of Dolores Roach” streams on Prime Video June 6.
