Tsai Meiyue and Vancy Law show individual collections at NYFW, presented by China Fashion Collective.
In a stunning display on Sunday, 10 September 2017, China Fashion Collective offered fans and critics a look at two remarkable designers: Tsai Meiyue and Vancy Law for this season of NYFW. Guests first saw the work of Tsai Meiyue, who is one of the premier wedding dress designers in all of China. Seeing her work first-hand is a mesmerizing experience: her sensitivity to scale and detail is unmatched. It’s pure artistry- her civil use of color and tapping of history (as in the traditional crimson Chinese wedding dress) offers garments a graceful timelessness. Tsai Meiyue assembled a deeply traditional array of works, from straight-lined dresses in brilliant red, a significant color in Chinese culture, with intricate embroidery of dragon detail and more. Styles that remind one of the past and the celebration of Chinese culture- a balance of exuberant joy and contained civility. There’s rarely anything experimental with Tsai Meiyue’s work, its pure craftwork. Drenched in elegance, these garments are the essence of honest realism. Plumes of white feathers fill out a grand gown, a suitable train adds an element of excitement and luxurious presence. The red garments offered a joyous look at style through the lens of history, as Tsai Meiyue only occasional ventured into experimental territory. But there is no question Tsai Meiyue has mastered the Min Xiu embroidery technique, native of her southern Chinese origin.
Vancy Law has an obsession with mixing ideas. As one of China’s rising designers, Law’s custom designs are emblems of elegance and satisfying taste. Student of French institute ESMOD, Law’s collection is a dynamic offering for the modern woman: gowns for every occasion from cocktail to work setting to wedding. The range of colors and structural considerations set her apart from Tsai. Both are incredibly skilled designers, offering a unique range of skills.
China Fashion Collective is an American effort by Manhattan-based HAN Media to bring Chinese fashions to the United States. China has a burgeoning fashion scene, many popping up in various cities across the mainland. China Fashion Collective has shown at Pier 59 a few times now, and have earned the support of HSBC and Related Companies.
