The Knockturnal attended the premiere of ‘Tár’ at the 60th New York Film Festival.
The film stars Cate Blanchett as renowned musician Lydia Tár, the first-ever female chief conductor of a major German orchestra. When Tár is just days away from recording the symphony that will elevate her career, all elements seem to conspire against her. She then turns to her adopted daughter, Petra, who becomes an integral emotional support system for her mother.
Tár features incredible talent both in front of and behind the camera. In addition to Blanchett, the film also stars Noémie Merlant and Nina Hoss, among others. The production team consists of Todd Field serving as both writer and director, along with editor Monika Willis, production designer Marco Bittner Rosser, and costume designer Bina Daigeler.
“I started with the mood board,” Bina Daigeler said of her creative process on Tár. “I read the script thousands of times and spent a lot of time with Todd talking about Tár. I asked him thousands of questions, so I came well-prepared to see Cate.”
The Knockturnal got the chance to chat with Monika Willis, Marco Bittner Rosser, and Bina Daigeler about all things Tár at the NYFF premiere.
