The show, which will air on ABC Family, will depict the singer from a young child in Queens to being the superstar she is today. Growing up in Queens and attending the famous Laguardia High School of Performing Arts, the show will uncover all of her past, delving into her immigrant family and her Trinidadian and Tobagonian background. Kate Angelo, the writer behind Sex Tape and The Back-Up Plan, will write the series, which is set to start filming in Queens in December.
Although she is currently on tour for her album “Pinkprint,” Minaj will produce the show. She is also no novice to acting, having lent her voice in Ice Age: Continental Drift, The Other Woman, and Barbershop 3. Made through Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment, Kaplan and Angelo are set to help Minaj produce, along with Stella Bulochnikov, Brian Sher and Gee Roberson.
Minaj made $21 million (so far) in 2015, ranking in as the only woman on Forbes’ list of “Highest Paid Rap Acts.” That, along with the fact that Anaconda set the record for most Vevo views in a full day and that she has the highest digital sales for any female artist (over 50 million tracks sold) is proof enough that we should definitely tune in to see the new show.
