R&B/Soul never sounded so good and even though the genre seems to branching out to hip hop and EDM beats nowadays Brittany Davis proves that the genre is alive and well.
They/them played a couple of tunes off of they/them body of work called Image Issues. It sounded like spoken word as they/them played keyboard in the key of B—Brittany. Soulful as Stevie Wonder and following in the light of Alicia Keys, the singer was born blind without vision. Davis brings they/them sound and vision to life based on experiences with abuse, to family in the prison system, to discrimination as a blind, black, non-binary person all with powerful lyrics and a few strokes on the keyboard.
Davis digs deep and did so at New York City’s Soho House this past Wednesday night to an intimate audience. They/them delivered such powerful messages with her positive storytelling. The singer also did a stirring cover of Johnny Cash’s “Hurt” which spawned a standing ovation in the room.
Pearl Jam Stone Gossard put his ear to the street of Seattle and placed Brittany on his record label Loosegroove Records. They/them has been a rising star since this past SXSW Music Festival in Austin from this past March that they/them star is still glowing. Glowing is just one word to describe this sensation that we wonder what is next for the R&B star. Image Issues is out now.
