The production stars Jesse Mueller and is directed by Diane Paulus.
The American Repertory Theatre (A.R.T) under Artistic Director Diane Paulus has a reputation in the theatre community for crafting spectacular new works and innovative revivals in Cambridge, MA then shipping them off to Broadway where they are welcomed with success and critical acclaim. I anticipate the new musical Waitress will be next in a long series of musicals and plays to grace both the Boston and Broadway stage. With a book by Jessie Nelson and music and lyrics by Sara Bareilles, Waitress is based on the motion picture written by Adrienne Shelly and stars Tony Award winner Jessie Mueller (Beautiful the Carol King Musical) as Jenna, a waitress stuck in a loveless marriage and hungry for freedom, who enters a pie-making contest despite conflicting advice from her co-workers and a handsome doctor.
Diane Paulus is directing the production. Waitress also stars Jeanna de Waal (Kinky Boots) as Dawn, Drew Gehling (On a Clear Day You Can See Forever) as Dr. Pomatter, Dakin Matthews (All the Way) as Joe, Keala Settle (Hands on a Hard Body) as Becky, and Joe Tippett (Airline Highway) as Earl. The creative team includes choreographer Chase Brock, set designer Scott Pask, costumer Suttirat Larlarb, lighting designer Ken Posner, and sound designer Jonathan Deans.
