Netflix’s “Day Shift” Movie is now streaming! The cast includes the talented and hilarious leading actors, Jamie Foxx, Snoop Dogg, Dave Franco, and Meagan Good.
The action-filled, gory, and fun film has a very unexpected plot that made me intrigued with how the story will unfold – main Actor Jamie Foxx, plays a loving dad who hides his real “day shift” job of being a vampire hunter, with a fake “day shift” job as a pool cleaner, from both his sweet daughter, and suspicious wife (played by Meagan Good), who is on to the fact that he’s being untruthful of his whereabouts. He grows desperately concerned of losing his family moving from the West Coast to the East Coast, unless he finds a way to pay off his daughter’s school tuition in a few days.
The showcase of his double-life is interestingly layered, as he hunts vampires in the morning, then brings his daughter to a fro-yo place, while nervously hiding his bloody wound with a sticker from the store. The plot itself is original, and I grew empathetic and desperate for him to save his family as well. The on-set chemistry between him and Actor Dave Franco specifically (who plays his vampire hunting Union Rep), comes across like two best friends who have grown up together and love to tease each other, even during the hardest times (which offers a great pause between the action). As someone who grew up on the Jamie Foxx show, I can attest to the fact that his comedic relief during the film is both effortless and charming, despite the Tarantino-esque gory and violent scenes. I found myself cheering him on as he collects vampire fangs one-by-one in order to sell them in the black market. Director J.J. Perry makes his feature film debut with “Day Shift,” and his background of being a stuntman himself is definitely evident with each intense and edge-of-seat, fighting scene. Halloween arrived early with “Day Shift,” and it made me want to start the countdown to perhaps dressing up as a vampire myself this season!
