Nello Petrucci showcased his latest collection titled βFrom Italy with loveβ at the Agora Gallery in Chelsea. Petrucciβs Italian roots are highlighted in the collection with the use of layered photographs, films, newspapers, and advertisements creating collages of his world.
Through extruding key elements from both infamous magazine clippings, books and art he recreated his homeland in a unique fashion. The works encompass an air of nostalgia and identity drawing parallel to Petrucciβs home and upbringing, simultaneously exploring the contrast between conflict and serenity. This is elevated through the use of neon paint splatters that have been meticulously executed by adding a βnewβ component to the pieces. The array of color adds another visual aspect to the work as it absorbed a more serial work with a hint of Petrucci βs imagination. This combination of collage and painting definitely tap into Petrucciβs past and celebrate his self-identity, an aspect which is a vital component in the practice he has so uniquely fashioned.
