Nello Petrucci showcased his latest collection titled “From Italy with love” at the Agora Gallery in Chelsea. Petrucci’s Italian roots are highlighted in the collection with the use of layered photographs, films, newspapers, and advertisements creating collages of his world.
Through extruding key elements from both infamous magazine clippings, books and art he recreated his homeland in a unique fashion. The works encompass an air of nostalgia and identity drawing parallel to Petrucci’s home and upbringing, simultaneously exploring the contrast between conflict and serenity. This is elevated through the use of neon paint splatters that have been meticulously executed by adding a “new” component to the pieces. The array of color adds another visual aspect to the work as it absorbed a more serial work with a hint of Petrucci ’s imagination. This combination of collage and painting definitely tap into Petrucci’s past and celebrate his self-identity, an aspect which is a vital component in the practice he has so uniquely fashioned.
