From a “New York State of Mind” to a New York college.

One of the biggest hip-hop artists of the 90s era, Nas, threw a concert at St. John’s University last Tuesday thanks to the university’s Haraya Club.

Even in the cold and rainy weather students and alumni lined up eager outside of the university’s Carneseca arena to see the singer as their last ‘hurrah!’ before the dreaded finals week.

“I’m really excited for Nas, it’s going to be a great time I know it,” said St. John’s student Tom Mill.

Saxophonist, composer and singer Rob Pope opened the concert by playing a mix some of his original soulful jams to warm the students up for a night full of fun.

Soon after the crowd went wild as the 90s icon graced the stage. The arena was filled with students and alumni bringing back what seem like ancient (90s) dance moves, they were singing at the top of their lungs and even received some words of wisdom from Nas that included ‘creating new ideas for change.’

Throughout the night Nas sang some of his hits including “New York State of Mind,” “It Ain’t Hard to Tell,” “If I Ruled the World,” “Get Down,” “The World is Yours,” “Life’s A B****,” and many more.

“It was my first concert and it was really great. I love Nas. It was a great experience because it had a 90s feel, which I love and my favorite part was when he preformed ‘It Ain’t Hard to Tell’,” explained St. John’s student Sieta Leon about her Nas experience.

The night was a success to say the very least as students enjoyed a night full of music, laughter and inspiration now its off to #FinalsWeek they go.
