Naeem Khan is a visionary whose exquisite taste and brilliant mindset puts on one of the greatest shows New York Fashion Week sees.

Mandy Moore, Lala Anthony, Peyton List, Hannah Bronfman, and Skyler Samuels were among the celebrity guests seated in the front row. For Khan’s F/W 2017 collection we saw lots of embroidery and beading. He kicked off the show with long embellished, free-flowing suits in gold and silver striped patterns, both worn over lace bralettes.

He produced chiffon beaded tops and jackets, and used animal print in many of dresses and jackets. Every look was elevated. Khan made couture pants suits, many of which had hand-embroidered floral designs, where we continued to see Kashmiri-Indian influence through design.

The first portion of his show highlighted sparkles, beading, and fringe. Then Khan moved towards more classy, elegant gowns that were body-fitted. Each gown was given texture using the original fabric, through folds and lawyers.

Each piece must’ve have taken weeks or months to make and perfect. From each embellishment to draping, there’s so much fine detail that goes into making the Naeem Khan look.

Every season Khan’s pieces evolve with the world and the current trend during the time period. His pieces contain imagery, architected into unique silhouettes and landscapes.

“It’s always been in my DNA that my clothes have to be architectural,” Khan said. “I take inspiration from the world. From India, Asia, to America it keeps evolving.”

One look that definitely looked like it must have taken a year to make was his closing gown. The Gold embellishment, lace and chiffon ball gown was made for a princess or goddess.

The model who was blessed to wear the jaw-dropping piece came out slowly, while walking the runway to Maya’s Angelou’s recorded poem of “Human Family.”

The poem reads lines such as “we are more alike my friends than we are unlike,” which was a unique and beautiful way to end his show.
