This past week, I had the opportunity to attend a thoughtful and energizing wellness event with Advil and the always-inspiring Amanda Kloots: The Strength Shift. Held at Spring Place in New York City, the event wasn’t just about movement—it was about rethinking what it truly means to be strong, especially when it comes to pain, recovery, and resilience.
Amanda has partnered with Advil as part of The Strength Shift campaign and worked closely with them to help bring their resilience-building workout series to life. She hosted this event where we had the chance to try the 45-minute session combining low-impact, strength-focused exercises—including modified planks, stretches, jumping jacks, and squats—all designed to build strength without pushing through pain.

As someone who ruptured my Achilles five years ago, I connected with the message that The Strength Shift isn’t just about the workout—it’s about being conscious of recovery and truly listening to your body, not pushing through pain. After a shoulder injury, Amanda didn’t stop moving entirely. She treated the pain with anti-inflammatories like Advil, shifted her focus to lower-body workouts, and stayed active while her shoulder healed. It was a great reminder that recovery and movement aren’t opposites—they can work together when you listen to your body.

During the post-workout Q&A, Amanda shared her approach to recovery and maintaining balance, spending quality time with her son for mental recharge, while also using wellness tools to aid muscle recovery. Amanda also talked about traveling with her son, who shares her passion for staying active and exploring new places. Whether visiting her sister in Paris, France, or taking trips across the U.S., she manages to balance an active lifestyle on the road while keeping up with her fitness and wellness routines. She also reflected on her time as a Rockette, explaining how that experience taught her discipline, resilience, and the importance of listening to her body—lessons that have shaped her wellness journey ever since.
Knockturnal asked Amanda what she keeps in her bag to stay strong and manage pain throughout the week. Her answer was refreshingly honest: Advil is a regular part of her routine to help with inflammation and soreness. She also highlighted Proper, her line of supplements created with both flavor and convenience in mind. It’s designed to make daily wellness more accessible, especially for busy, active lifestyles like hers. And when it comes to energy and hydration? Amanda keeps electrolyte or hydration packets on hand to fuel up between workouts and stay balanced throughout her day. Strength, she reminded us, starts with how you take care of yourself—inside and out.

This event was a beautiful reminder that real strength comes from honoring your body, not overriding it. Whether you’re recovering from injury, learning to move more mindfully, or just rethinking your relationship with pain and rest, The Strength Shift offers a new way to approach wellness—with more care and more clarity.
The event emphasized Advil’s recent launch of Advil Targeted Relief—the brand’s first topical pain reliever. This product combines four powerful pain-fighting ingredients to deliver up to 8 hours of relief right where it hurts. As an athlete who sometimes prefers not to always swallow a pill, I can appreciate this targeted approach to managing pain.
If you are in New York and want to get in your Strength Shift mindset, Advil and Tone House are teaming up for a month-long class series in NYC. Every Tuesday in August (August 5–26), with both morning and evening sessions, you can join low-impact, intentional strength workouts focused on recovery, mindful movement, and building lasting resilience.
