Mind of a Genius Records hosted a listening party for one the country’s hottest up-and-coming acts, THEY. It was a stunning experience.
The party went down at Harvard and Stone, an East Hollywood haunt known as a kingmaker for hot LA music acts. THEY. matched the venue’s intimate feel with a unique and breathtaking listening experience for their just-released full-length debut ‘Nü Religion: HYENA’.
The night started with an incredible choir exchanging fiery solos and pumping out fierce and tight harmonies. We were all visibly stunned by their performance.
THEY., Dante Jones and Drew Love, took the stage dressed in all black and full of energy. They introduced the album with an eye toward fully engaging the already-rapt audience. The two savvy musicians talked extensively about meticulous production details and the meaning behind each song. It was absolutely gripping.
Legends break the mold. This act wants to join the rarified club of innovative musicians that’ve influenced their sound.
I saw THEY. play an untouchable set at ComplexCon last year. It was one of the best sets I saw all year. Label head Azad Naficy also played me some of their tracks when I interviewed him late last year. I was primed for this night, and yet was still stunned by the sheer originality of the band’s music.
These guys are headed for stardom and beyond. As listening party wound down, THEY. invited us all to join their Wolfpack, to join them in their quest to make meaningful, poppin, forward-thinking music.
